What you'll find in our San Martin range

San Martin watches lean into classic tool-watch design: textured dive dials, clean pilot faces and slim dress cases.

Most pieces in our range are built from 316L stainless steel, a hard-wearing, corrosion-resistant steel.

Almost every watch here has sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective (AR) coating.

Sapphire resists scratches far better than mineral glass, and the coating cuts glare so the dial is easier to read.

The range is mostly mechanical, with a few quartz pieces for anyone who wants grab-and-go reliability. Every product page lists the movement, so it's always clear which is which.

The movements inside San Martin watches

The movement (or calibre) is the engine of a watch. These are the automatic calibres in our San Martin range.

An automatic winds itself from the motion of your wrist, with no battery.

  • Seiko NH35: a tough, widely serviced Japanese automatic that hacks (the seconds hand stops while you set the time) and can be hand-wound. Found in the SN0130, the SN0108 pilot and the SN0046 abalone diver.
  • Miyota 90S5 and 9015: Japanese automatics from Citizen's movement maker. The 9015 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with around 42 hours of power reserve, according to Miyota. You'll find the 90S5 in the SN0126 divers, SN0144 dress watch and SN0149, and the 9015 in the SN0150.
  • Miyota 9120: a multi-function automatic showing month, day of the week, date and 24-hour time, in the 43mm SN0075.
  • Sea-Gull ST2130 and ST1812: Sea-Gull ST-series automatics. The ST2130 powers the SN0138 and SN0017 divers, and the ST1812 sits inside the slim SN0110 dress watch.
  • YN55: an automatic used in the SN0142 diver and the SN0033 pilot.

Three San Martin pieces are quartz, which means they run on a battery:

  • VK63 and VK64: quartz chronographs, sometimes called mechaquartz because the stopwatch has a mechanical feel when you press the pushers. They're still battery-powered. Found in the panda-dial chronograph and the SN0127 vintage pilot chronograph.
  • VH31: a quartz movement with a smooth sweeping seconds hand rather than a tick, in the 36mm pilot.

Divers, pilots and dress watches

Vintage divers. The SN0138 (37mm), SN0142 (39.5mm), SN0017 (40mm), SN0046 (42.5mm) and the SN0126 wave-dial divers carry a rotating bezel for timing dives, bright lume and a 200m rating.

Most use a screw-down crown to keep water out.

Pilots. Pilot watches put legibility first: big numerals, high-contrast hands and luminous markers.

Choose the SN0108 (38.5mm) with a light dial and blue hands, the SN0033 (39.5mm) with a numberless dial, or the quartz 36mm pilot on a nylon strap.

Dress and statement pieces. The SN0110 is a 37mm dress watch just 9.8mm thick, so it slides under a cuff. The SN0144 (39mm) has a sunburst dial.

The SN0130, SN0149 and SN0150 bring mother-of-pearl, aventurine and gemstone details.

Chronographs. Both San Martin chronographs are quartz, rated to 100m. If you want a mechanical watch for every day, browse our automatic watches instead.

Choosing the right size

San Martin cases in our range run from 36mm to 43mm. That spread makes the brand a good fit for a lot of wrists, not just large ones.

For a smaller wrist, or a vintage look, try the 36mm pilot, the 37mm SN0110 and SN0138, or the 38.5mm SN0108.

These sizes suit many women's wrists as well as men's.

For an average to larger wrist, the 39mm to 43mm pieces give more dial and more presence.

Lug-to-lug (the distance between the tips of the lugs) matters too; for example, the SN0130 is 42mm across but 48.5mm lug to lug.

Looking after your San Martin

An automatic will stop if it's left off the wrist until its power reserve runs out. Give the crown a few turns, set the time and it's away again.

An automatic watch winder keeps it running between wears.

Screw the crown down before swimming, and rinse the watch in fresh water after the beach or pool. Avoid hot showers, spas and saunas, which are hard on seals.

Keep mechanical watches away from strong magnets, such as speakers and magnetic phone cases. Plan on a service every few years.

Quartz pieces just need a new battery when they stop.

Frequently asked questions

Are San Martin watches automatic?

Most of our San Martin range is automatic, using NH35, Miyota, Sea-Gull ST-series or YN55 movements. Three pieces are quartz: two chronographs (VK63 and VK64) and a 36mm pilot (VH31).

Is a mechaquartz watch mechanical?

No. Mechaquartz movements such as the VK63 and VK64 are battery-powered quartz. Only the chronograph mechanism has a mechanical feel. They're accurate, low-maintenance and need a new battery every few years.

Which San Martin watches are good for swimming?

The divers rated to 200m with a screw-down crown suit swimming and snorkelling. Pieces rated to 100m handle swimming too. Always push in or screw down the crown first.

Do San Martin watches have sapphire crystal?

Almost all of them do, with an anti-reflective coating. The exceptions are the 36mm VH31 pilot (mineral glass) and the SN0127 pilot chronograph (Hardlex). Each product page lists the crystal.

What size San Martin watch should I buy?

For smaller wrists, look at 36mm to 38.5mm. For average to larger wrists, 39mm to 43mm. Check lug-to-lug as well, listed on many product pages, and see our size guide.

What warranty comes with a San Martin watch?

Every watch we sell comes with a 2-year warranty. Australian Consumer Law guarantees also apply on top of any warranty; the ACCC explains your rights.
