Opal pendants, designed around the stone
We source our opals directly from Australian miners, then select and cut each stone ourselves.
Our owner designs each pendant around its opal, so the setting follows the stone's shape and colour.
Pendant or pendant necklace?
A pendant is the opal in its setting, made to hang from a chain. A pendant necklace is the pendant together with its chain.
Almost all of our pendants are pendant necklaces, and most of those come with a sterling silver chain. Check each listing for the chain details.
The exception is our 9ct gold pendant, listed without a chain, to wear on a gold chain of your choice.
Prefer something ready to wear, chosen by opal colour and chain length? See our opal necklaces.
What is a bail?
The bail is the loop or fitting at the top of a pendant that the chain passes through.
Two of our pendants use an infinity-style bail, shaped after the infinity symbol: the 2.75ct Coober Pedy crystal opal and the 9ct gold pendant.
Wearing a pendant on your own chain? Check that the chain's clasp fits through the bail, and match your metals: silver with silver, gold with gold.
Our 9ct gold opal pendant
Our 4.55ct pendant sets a solid Coober Pedy opal from the Olympic Fields in a polished 9ct gold frame.
The white-based opal has a soft, milky body with flashes of pink, orange and green, and glimpses of blue and yellow. A four-prong setting lets the light in.
9ct gold is 9 parts pure gold in 24, alloyed with other metals. That makes it harder wearing than higher-carat gold, which suits a piece worn often.
Australian animal and ocean designs
Our animal and ocean pendants are sterling silver designs, each set with a Lightning Ridge doublet opal.
- Koala: a detailed koala with an opal inlay that shifts from deep blue to bright green.
- Kangaroo: a polished kangaroo with flashes of pink, blue and green.
- Baby seal: a playful, high-polish seal with blue, green and teal opal at its heart.
- Ocean-inspired: an opal surrounded by a sculpted starfish, seashell and ocean flora.
A doublet is a thin slice of precious opal bonded to a dark backing, which deepens the colour. Each of these says "doublet" in its title.
They make a natural gift for anyone who loves Australian wildlife and the coast.
Statement stones and lab-grown diamonds
Our other pendants put the opal itself centre stage. Pieces titled solid opal are opal all the way through, cut from a single piece.
- Free-form: a 7.95ct Coober Pedy opal in its own irregular shape, with a single round-cut lab-grown diamond.
- Double drop: two solid Coober Pedy white opals in an elongated design.
- Four-prong: a 2.75ct solid Coober Pedy white opal, held by four small metal claws.
- Organic frame: a 3.00ct Coober Pedy opal with pastel pink, green and yellow.
- Crystal opal: a translucent 2.75ct stone with eight lab-grown diamonds, and a 1.20ct solid crystal opal with one lab-grown diamond above it.
- Geometric frame: a 3.0ct grey-based Lightning Ridge opal from Dead Dog Gully, framed by lab-grown diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, grown above ground rather than mined.
Caring for your opal pendant
- Don't soak doublets. Long soaking can weaken the bond; wipe them with a soft, damp cloth instead.
- Avoid harsh chemicals. Put perfume and sunscreen on before your pendant.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as hot water followed by cold.
- Polish the metal, not the stone. Use a silver cloth on sterling silver and a soft cloth on 9ct gold, and skip silver dips.
