Opal rings, made around the stone

We source our opals directly from Australian miners, then select and cut each stone ourselves. Our owner designs and makes every ring around its opal.

All four are set in s925 sterling silver (92.5% silver), with opal from Lightning Ridge in NSW and Coober Pedy in SA.

Which ring style suits you?

Solitaire. One stone on its own. Our 0.90ct square-cut Lightning Ridge solid opal sits in four prongs, small metal claws that hold the stone while letting in light.

Three-stone. A centre stone with a smaller stone on each side. Our 1.4ct oval Lightning Ridge crystal opal is flanked by lab-grown diamonds.

Our 2.75ct Coober Pedy ring sets three white opals in a cathedral setting, where the band rises in arches to lift the stones.

Statement. Our 2.50ct ring sets a large free-form crystal opal, with three lab-grown diamonds on the shoulders of the band.

Solid opal, crystal opal and lab-grown diamonds

Solid opal is opal all the way through, cut from a single piece. Our square-cut solitaire and 1.4ct oval ring are both solid opal.

Crystal opal is translucent, so light passes through and the colour seems to glow from within. Our 1.4ct oval and 2.50ct statement rings are crystal opal.

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, grown above ground rather than mined. We always describe them as lab-grown.

Finding your ring size

Each ring is listed in one size, so check the listing before you order. Our 2.50ct statement ring is a size N.

Australian sizes use letters, the same system as the UK. To find yours, have a finger sized by a jeweller, or compare with a ring that already fits.

Fingers swell in the heat and late in the day, so allow for that.

A wide band or statement ring can feel snugger than a slim band in the same size. If a size isn't shown, contact us before you order.

Protecting an opal on your hand

Rings take more knocks than any other jewellery, and opal is softer than many gemstones. A little care goes a long way.

  • Take it off for the gym, gardening, cleaning and heavy lifting.
  • Put it on last, after hand cream, sunscreen and perfume, and take it off to swim.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as hot water followed by cold.
  • Check the prongs now and then for any looseness.
  • Store it on its own, so harder stones and metal can't scratch the opal.

Frequently asked questions

What size are your opal rings?

Each ring is listed in a single size. Our 2.50ct statement ring is a size N. Check the listing for each ring's size, or contact us before you order.

Are Australian ring sizes the same as UK sizes?

Yes. Both use letters, so a size N in Australia is a size N in the UK. US sizes use numbers, so convert a US size before you order.

Is an opal ring suitable for everyday wear?

Yes, with some care. Opal is softer than many gemstones, so take your ring off for the gym, gardening and cleaning, and keep it away from harsh chemicals and sudden temperature changes.

Can an opal ring be an engagement ring?

Yes. Opal makes a colourful, one-of-a-kind engagement ring. Because it's worn every day, it needs more care than a diamond: take it off for hands-on tasks and have the prongs checked now and then.

Are the diamonds in your opal rings real?

Yes. They're lab-grown diamonds: real diamonds, grown above ground rather than mined. Our 1.4ct three-stone ring and 2.50ct statement ring both feature them.

How do I clean an opal ring?

Wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and dry it gently. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and silver dips. Polish the sterling silver with a silver cloth, keeping it off the opal.
